Ohio Issue 2

The Ohio Collective Bargaining Limit Repeal will appear on the November 8, 2011 general election ballot in the state of Ohio as a veto referendum. The measure would repeal legislation that limits collective bargaining for public employees in the state.

The formal title of the proposal that this measure would repeal is Senate Bill 5. Most notably, SB 5 prevents unions from charging fair share dues to employees who opt out. The process to place the referendum on the ballot for voters to decide was completed by supporters, as signatures were certified for the Ohio Secretary of State. The group behind the referendum effort is the political action committee We Are Ohio.

Senate Bill 5 will impact the state’s 400,000 public workers, restricting their ability to strike and collectively bargain. As it stands, the bill would only permit public employees to collectively bargain for wages, preventing them from collectively bargaining for health insurance and pensions. It would also prohibit all public employees from striking and could increase employee contributions for pensions and healthcare.

According to reports, the measure’s language was decided on August 3, 2011. When voters head to the polls, a “yes” vote would be a vote to keep the law, while a “no” vote would be a vote to repeal the law.

Man Attempts To Lures Girls Into Car

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Police said on Monday that they were investigating separate reports of a man who attempted to lure young girls into his car.

Two police reports were made in the Hilltop neighborhood, 10TV’s Andy Hirsch reported.

Nine-year-old Jennifer Damron said that she was selling candy bars for a school fundraiser near Eureka and Fremont Avenues on Thursday at about 6 p.m. when a man in a small, white, four-door car pulled him and asked her if she wanted a ride.

When she said no to the man, Damron said that the driver went down the street and then drove by again before pulling over. He did not say another word, according to the girl.

“He just (stared) at me and (gave) me a creepy, scary look,” Damron said.

“I think it’s very dangerous,” said Kathy Harrison, the girl’s mother. “You never know what is in their minds. There are a lot of sick people out there.”

Police said that on Sunday at about 10 a.m., near Oakley and Sullivant avenues, an 11-year-old girl ran into a church and was hysterical. She told the people inside a similar story of a man in a small, white, four-door car who followed her and tried to get her into his vehicle.

The driver offered the girl money to get into his car before she ran away, according to a police report.

Damron and Harrison said that they know of another girl in the neighborhood who claimed a similar occurrence.

“I just hope they catch him real soon, get him off the streets, leave these babies alone so they can go on leading their lives instead of being terrified to walk down the street,” Harrison said.

The girls could not give police a very detailed description of the driver.

The girls described the driver as a black man with a medium build who appeared to be in his middle 30s.

Anyone with information about the man is asked to call police.

Ohio State Highway Patrol cruisers will soon be getting new light panels. Officials with the highway patrol said that the typical red and blue lights that you’re used to seeing will be going away.

The new lightbars will be purely blue and white lights, in an effort to decrease the number of situations such as an officer getting struck by a vehicle.

Officials with the highway patrol said the state mandated the order to replace all light bars early this year. The new lights will give officers out on the road more safety, especially at night.
